Deborah has lived in Clapham for fourteen years and is currently Chairman of Governors of Clapham and Patching C.E. Primary School. Married to Jim, she has a grown up stepson and a 10-year-old grandson.
Having qualified as an accountant at a London practice, Deborah pursued a financial career at a number of blue-chip organisations. She moved to Sussex to work for SEEBOARD Energy and was appointed the first female Finance Director in 2001.
Deborah has previous experience of being a councillor for a London Borough where she was Vice-Chairman of the Planning and Social Services Committees as well as a member of a number of other Committees including Schools. Deborah takes an active interest in local issues, particularly education and the protection of the countryside. She is currently Deputy Cabinet Member for the Environment and Economy with special responsibility for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Chairman of the Downland Area Committee, member of The Sussex Sea Fisheries Committee and the South Downs Joint Committee. In April 2008 she was appointed to the Cabinet with responsibility for the Environment & Economy portfolio.
Deborah's leisure interests include playing golf (badly), gardening, being taken for walks by the dog and reading.

Nigel says "I have lived in Sussex since 1980, having moved from just over the border in Hampshire. I relocated to Littlehampton in 1994 with my wife and three children, all of whom have been educated locally, initially at Arundel Church of England School and subsequently at the Littlehampton Community School.
I became a Young Conservative in the early 1970’s and have held a number of offices since that time, including Chairman of Littlehampton Conservative Association. I was also fortunate to be elected as an Arun District Councillor for the Central Ward of Littlehampton, when I particularly enjoyed serving on the Development Control Committee. I am currently the President of the St John Ambulance Division for Littlehampton and Chairman of Crystal Palace Housing Association. I am also a director of the charity Freshvisions.
My profession is that of a surveyor and I am a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, specialising in Capital Gains and Inheritance Tax within the South East. My hobbies include running in the West Sussex Fun Run League as a member of the Arunners, travelling, the theatre and fine art.''

Michael says "I have been a member of the Conservative Party for over 30 years, and since retiring have become increasingly active in my local party's affairs. I am Deputy Chairman of Arundel and South Downs Constituency Association, and have been Bury Branch Chairman for 10 years. I am part of a political marriage, my wife being an ASDCA Officer, and Secretary and Treasurer of Bury Branch.
I spent my working life in the energy industry and was an Executive Director of London Electricity plc, Chairman of London Total Gas Ltd, Chairman of London Total Energy Ltd and Chairman of Thames Power plc, a 1,000 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power station. I retired aged 52 in 1997 following a US takeover.
My wife and I have two grown up children and have lived in Sutton for 10 years. I am Churchwarden at our local church, St John the Baptist. In recent years I have been involved with charitable work for the Sussex Minibus Association and the Children's Society - my wife being the local Chairman. As a governor of Herbert Shiner Intermediate School, I chaired the Property and Headmaster's Remuneration Committees. In the 1980's I was Deputy Chairman of Coldwaltham Parish Council. I am a Freeman of the City of London.
With a one and a half acre garden I am, by necessity as well as inclination, a keen gardener. My interest in sport, matches my passion for political and economic affairs.''

Educated at the High School for Boys in Chichester and at Goldsmiths' College, London University, Derek studied modern languages and enjoyed a career in export sales and marketing in the electronics industry, spending much time abroad. He moved to Barnham in 1987 and has been active in many local issues and organisations and is a Vice President of Eastergate Cricket Club. A keen walker and cyclist he enjoys having the natural beauty of the South Downs on his doorstep.
Derek joined Eastergate Parish Council in 1991 and served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman from 1997and has represented Eastergate and Barnham as an active member of the Joint Downland Area Committee since its inception.
He is County Cycling Champion, and Streetscene Champion. He is Vice Chairman of the Rights of Way Committee and Chairs two external bodies, the Lidsey Landfill Liaison and Arun Valley Rail Partnership Steering Committees and is a member of the Executive Committee of the West Sussex Association of Local Councils.
He served as a Member of the Children's and Young People's Services Select Committee for three years and was appointed to the Strategic and Environmental Services and the Hospitals Overview Select Committees in late 2007. Previously a member of the Select Committee Task Force investigating the provision of services to children with Special Educational Needs, he currently sits on Task Forces investigating Footway Standards and Library Services and on the Member Development Focus Group.
In April 2008 he was appointed Deputy to the Cabinet member for Strategic Planning and Transport and was promoted to the Cabinet in July 2008.

First elected in 2001, Lionel's division includes the villages of Henfield, Partridge Green, West Grinstead, Dial Post, Cowfold and Shermanbury. Lionel is a published author of illustrated books and short stories and has been a freelance journalist. Until 2006 he and his wife ran a mail order book business, but he now devotes his time to council business. Married to Ann, they have one son, Sean. Lionel is long term member and current chairman of Henfield Conservatives and a founding member of Arundel & South Downs Conservative Association.

His hobbies include computing, reading American crime novels, a favourite is Robert B Parker, and visiting his son, who now lives in Michigan, USA. A member of the Cabinet since 2002, Lionel says that playing a part as a Member who has business experience makes an interesting way of viewing things and serving the community. A firm believer in less control of central government and the fact that Conservatives cost you less, he believes in the role that County Councils play in shaping the lives of residents, and that regional government quangos have no place in our lives. Since October 2007 he has been the Deputy Leader of the Council.''

"Elected in 2005, I am the Cabinet Member for Education and Schools, having been Chairman of 6 LAs Joint Health Scrutiny that comprehensively referred to the Secretary of State for reconsideration the NHS Fit for the Future proposals. I aim to visit all 300 schools and Governing Bodies to ensure their progress towards places of learning that all youngsters, parents and guardians can regard as outstanding.
I am enjoying my fourth ‘career’, serving the community as a County Councillor, as a non executive director of a national mutual, as well as running my own business planning consultancy- “A safe pair of hands Limited”. After school at Brighton College,I attended University atf St. Edmund Hall Oxford and then became an Army Officer in the Royal Tank Regiment,seeing active service in Borneo. I used to live in France where I was a wine merchant for 5 years, I then returned to West Sussex, with my three daughters attending Warden Park school. My third ‘career’ in ICT was with BT until 2004. I am actively involved in local activities, including Church as Deanery Lay Chairman and participating in all nine Parish Council meetings. I have 3 pleasures- active membership of Harlequins FC and RL, an addiction to non-proficient golf and gardening.
I was recruited into the Hurstpierpoint Conservatives branch committee and served in various roles including chairman. I am a Vice Pesident of Arundel & South Downs Constituency Association."

Chris says "Born in this part of Sussex, I attended the local Schools of Ebernoe, Northchapel & Midhurst finally going to Brinsbury Agricultural College as it was in 1959/60. I am a third generation Farmer, a mostly arable farm until the late 80s when I diversified half the farm into leisure activities with the onset of set a side. Now we have full 18 hole Golf Course, whilst keeping 200 acres of Arable land, which in the process of going Organic. As I followed my father and grandfather, I am hoping that my son Tim and grandson Oscar (Oscars great grandfather Maurice Allom was an English Test player before the last War) may follow me. My daughter Tessa is working with me on the Farm conversion programme.
My knowledge of local Government has been mainly through my wife Janet, who for the past 36 years has been a District and Parish Councillor.The time since my election in a bye-election has taught me a lot regarding the works of the County Council although obviously there is more to learn.
My outside interests are cricket at Ebernoe, windsurfing at Chichester Lakes and cycling on a regular basis. In 2005 I completed a solo ride from Petworth to our house in central Portugal, a total of 1050 miles in 11 days.

Pat Arculus has lived in West Sussex for 33 years and is married to Brian with 2 grown up children.
Pat says "I have worked actively in the voluntary sector locally and for the past 8 years dedicated my efforts to the County having previously worked in IT and business administration.
Since being elected in 2001 to represent the Pulborough division, I served as a policy adviser on Social Services and Education before being appointed to the Cabinet, initially as Cabinet Member for Education in 2003 followed in 2005 with a move to Adults’ Services. A Cabinet reorganisation in 2008 brought me back to the challenging role with young people as Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services. With the recent focus on social care for the young with high profile cases involving child abuse in the home, this is a demanding but very fulfilling role.
I also chair the West Sussex Childrens’ Trust and the Chanctonbury County Local Committee, as well as sitting on a number of children related committees such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Committee, and The Rural Mobile Youth Trust.
I have been a long standing member of the Conservative Party and was Treasurer of the Arundel and South Downs Conservative Association for four years. Family values are very important to me together with a belief in local democracy delivering good value services for our residents, as well as protecting our beautiful county for the future.''

Frank Wilkinson is Manchester born but has lived in West Sussex for over fifty years. Married to Ros, with three adult children and five grandchildren, Frank is a great believer in family life and feels it is the core contributor to a decent law-abiding community - he hates political correctness and injustice.
He says "I have been involved in local government and the community nearly all of my married life and was in Rotary for almost thirty years. I have been a County Councillor for twelve years representing Storrington and have earned the reputation of getting stuck in and carrying out any promises I make, win or lose. You will always find me at one of the five Parish Council meetings that I represents come rain or shine - following up any concerns my constituents have - anything from youth to highway problems.
I am very much involved with Waste and Recycling at County Hall, being the lead member for taking forward the County's waste strategies, the latest being the new recycling facilities at Ford and the one billion pounds contract for the end disposal of our household waste at Warnham. I am also on the Health Overview Scrutiny Committee, the Shoreham Harbour regeneration steering group, the Littlehampton Harbour regenerating Committee and am the Deputy Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning with special responsibilities for waste & ecycling. My aim is to reduce landfilling to zero!"
